On April 23, 1616, William Shakespeare passes away in Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom. It is also the date of World Book Day as sponsored by the United Nations meant to promote reading, publishing, and copyright. Shakespeare’s influence on world literature is incomparable to almost any other storyteller. One of many examples is Margaret Atwood’s interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s last plays, the Tempest. Hag-Seed has Felix, artistic director of an Ontario theater festival, instead of Prospero. Milan is replaced by an art festival. However, Atwood’s story does not need a full understanding of The Tempest to still follow it.
