March 17 marks the traditional death anniversary of Saint Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint. It is celebrated as his Feast Day to celebrate his life for multiple Christian traditions, including the Catholic Church. It is also a day of national celebration for Ireland as a nation. Elsewhere in the world where the Irish diaspora has been experienced, those of Irish descent commonly celebrate it as well. Hence, celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day is a day to celebrate all things Irish. Choosing a single book to mark the day from Irish literature is tricky, which is to say nearly impossible. It is with almost sheepishness, the Librarian’s Almanac offers a classic, which can be read in bits and during a beer.
