On February 9, 1881, Fyodor Dostoyevsky passes away. Of all his works, Crime and Punishment may be globally the best known. He was forced to pause the work while facing immense debt. In order to pay for these debts, he agreed to write a novel in less than a month for a publisher. He hired a stenographer to assist him, a young woman named Anna. Together the finished The Gambler and Dostoyevsky asked her to marry him. She would continue to help him write and took over a sizable amount of managing and selling his work.
