January 21, 2019 marks Martin Luther King Jr Day in the United States. It is also the 2nd anniversary of 2017 Women’s March. The Women’s March took place in over 400 cities across America and 160+ countries participated as well. This large-scale event took place on Donald Trump’s first full day as president of the United States in reaction to the 2016 election. The American struggle for civil rights in a well-known one globally. However, it is one part of a greater, complex conversation around the globe as demonstrated in the publication of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s short book We Should All Be Feminists. The Nigerian novelists taps into a global question, “What is feminism?” and answers it for readers around the world. The book’s message has been adapted and shared on the Internet. Its popularity may be attributed to Adichie’s simple focus on inclusion and awareness, which she charges humanity to take on.
