On January 15, 1919 Rosa Luxemburg is assassinated in Berlin, Germany. Luxemburg is not as well known of a Marxist theorists as her male contemporaries, but she was clearly considered one of the more dangerous of them to be assassinated. She was born in Poland to a middle class Jewish family and was raised with a love of learning and intellectual pursuits, which she embraced with a passion that led her to obtaining a doctorate in law at the University of Zurich. Kate Evans’ Red Rosa is a biography in graphic novel form that does its best to explain for the reader the root of Marxist theory as well as Luxemburg’s leftist position as socialism and communism bloom in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century.
