On January 5, 1914, the Ford Motor Company announces an eight-hour workday and a minimum daily wage of $5 in salary plus bonuses. These bonuses were subject to restrictions and imposed “character standards.” The progression of workers’ wellbeing is a complex history with issues still being addressed with passion and weight. Conscious Capitalism as a concept proposes that that businesses should serve all major stakeholders, including the environment. This book argues the inherent good of both business and capitalism when each focuses first on creating value for all stakeholders: including customers, employees, suppliers, investors, society, and the environment.
