On November 14, 1960, Ruby Bridges becomes the first black child to attend an all-white elementary school in Louisiana. Robert Coles’ book The Story of Rub Bridges attempts to help readers (and especially children) understand the exceptional obstacles children like Ruby had to go through in order to receive access to the education they deserved. The courage demanded for some children like her was exceptional, but may still be relatable for many children today. We all continue to have much to learn from Ruby.
