On April 20, 1999, the Columbine High School massacre occurs. Thirteen people die and twenty-four are injured at Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado. Sue Klebold is one of another kind of victim from that massacre. As the mother of one of the shooters, she survives but lives the horror and heartbreak. Her process understanding this event and her part in it is laid out in her book, A Mother’s Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy. It stands out as a raw first person account of gun violence in schools. The book is unlikely offer the reader closure, but it does offer the very human experience some people are forced to live through.
