On April 15, 1912, the British passenger liner RMS Titanic sinks in the North Atlantic at 2:20 a.m., two hours and forty minutes after hitting an iceberg. Only 710 of 2,227 passengers and crew on board survive. The event will hold the imagination of people for decades, haunting them with the stark tragedy of that night. Walter Lord’s 1955 non-fiction book, A Night to Remember, is generally considered a definitive resource about the Titanic. The book’s material comes from survivor accounts from over sixty people in addition to first person drawings, memoris, and written accounts.
