On March 16, 1751, James Madison is born on Belle Grove Plantation in Port Conway, Virginia, a colony of Great Britain. It is unlikely James Madison would have ever liked Alan Moore. Yet they both of them share a passion for the accountability of the power in their lives’ works. Drawing on the virtues Madison advocated for in life the American Library Association (ALA) observes Freedom of Information (FOI) Day. It is a day to honor those who have championed, protected, and promoted public access to government information and the public’s right to know. This power balance is core to the Alan Moore’s plot drive in Watchmen. The premise, among other things includes exploring a question posed by the Roman satirist, Juvenal, who has been attributed to the question “Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?” or “Who watches the watchmen?”
