On February 27,1801, Washington, D.C. is placed under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Congress. D.C. residents haven’t forgiven them since. A hallmark attitude of D.C. dwellers is a mixture of federal resentment and leftist political leanings, something unique in the greater American political landscape where the two views may be seen as incompatible. However, it is useful appreciating this perspective, which is where Dream City comes in. Written by two experienced Washington journalists, Dream City makes the case that to be a D.C. resident means to live with only partial basic American rights and constant political power imbalance.
