On January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi is assassinated by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu extremist. Though the life of Gandhi ended, his presence has yet to leave. He acts as one of the role models in E. F. Schumacher’s collection of essays and articles from Small Is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered. Though the book was first published in the 1970s, it has re-emerged as a call to fight the “bigger is better” mentality of industrialization. It demands the world to consider what business looks like with a conscious and considers everyone from stockholders to the environment to be weighty stakeholders in holistically good business.
