On October 4, 1957 Russia launches Sputnik 1, marking the start of the Space Race. The event is notable enough to launch a wave of cultural works on the other side of the world in America, including Rocket Boys. It has also been marketed to readers under the title, October Sky. It is the same title as the movie that would come out inspired by the book. It may be noted that “October Sky”  is an anagram of “Rocket Boys.”
